Local Loves // Emma Brown Hair

Set in one of my now favourite parts of Leicester, nestled among the vintage shops, adorable terrace houses and sweet little cafes is something very special. Emma Brown Hair is hands down the most beautiful salon I've ever visited and Emma herself is a real angel. I've said it many times before, good design and branding makes such a big difference to a business and the slick grey and pink colour scheme and clean lines of this spotless salon let you know as soon as you walk in that you're dealing with someone who takes hairdressing very seriously. This is further proved by a wall full of certificates and awards and a plaque proudly displayed letting you know that Emma Brown Hair is a Kevin Murphy Session Salon, an honour only bestowed upon salons that show true styling excellence and letting the owners be the first to experience new products and train in new techniques. All pretty impressive eh?

You might think that all of this knowledge and professional success might equal a stuffy and unfriendly atmosphere at the salon, but you couldn't be further from the truth. Emma and the team are just lovely, very friendly and welcoming. You can tell that Emma is really listening to what you want and isn't afraid to be bold and try new things, and you can be confident that with her expansive knowledge of her craft and the best tools of the trade at her fingertips she'll advise you the best way to get there and make sure you leave a happy client!

Emma gave my hair a good MOT on my visit, bleaching my roots and toning my hair my beloved dark steely shade of grey before trimming and styling it into a voluminous mega glam do that Adele would have been proud of! She used quite a few products that were completely new to me and seemed just ingenious (all Kevin Murphy of course) like a spray that she added before putting on the toner to really lock in the colour and a detox shampoo that she applied just at the ends to give a slight ombre effect of dark grey roots to silvery ends. She also used two wonderful styling products, a smoothing serum before my blow dry to keep baby hairs and frizz at bay and then at the end after she had added some curls a wonderful defining clay like product that added texture and definition without looking greasy or weighing my hair down.

As you can tell, I was so impressed with my visit and I'd highly recommend you book in and get the VIP treatment from Emma too. I have to say that based on my pretty good knowledge of salons in the Leicestershire area, the prices at EBH are really really reasonable for the quality of service that you get. Plus you might even get an extra treat of meeting Emma's gorgeous little French bulldog Pierre too!

While you're at it why not arrive a little early and head to The Tiny Bakery for a coffee and some cake and have a little wander into some of the shops on Clarendon Park Road before your appointment? It'll be a lovely afternoon out for sure!
