So something I've often said about my sense of style is that it can be so contradictory. Most of the time these days I like to stick to a mostly black palette as I think it's so chic, but when I see something as bright and beautiful as this dress I just can't help but get swept back to the part of me that loves fun, bold, trashy-cute fashion. I often say that one of my life goals is to look like a dessert as often as possible and I definitely think this gorgeous dress helps me on my way - it makes me think of the beautiful pink meringues my Gran used to make!
Genuinely, I haven't been this excited about a plus size dress design in a really long time - the Seychelles Dress by Gemma Collins (£60.00*) is really a dream come true for me. The cut is marvellous - so classic with the ruching and wrap front but brought right up to date with the length and ombre colour effect. And talking of that colour, oh my gosh - it makes me think of Cinderella's dress when the fairy godmother's are fighting over whether it should be blue or pink and they keep changing it behind each other's backs! The dress itself is made of a really soft and silky fabric with lots of stretch so it hugs your figure while still being really flattering because of the ruched fabric. It's also fully lined which always wins extra points with me and I love that it kicks the whole 'fat chicks shouldn't wear bright colours' junk right to the kerb!
I knew that I really wanted to wear my glittery chunky sandals with this baby and that I didn't want to wear a cardigan or jacket that would hide some of the beauty of the dress; so I decided that a gold stole or wrap would be the perfect accessory. Unfortunately I just couldn't find anything that was glitzy enough to fit the image I had in my mind and so I got my sewing machine out and made one for myself! I'm really lucky that I have a wonderful Saturday market right on my doorstep which has a few fabric stalls and an excellent haberdashery stall where you can buy all manner of ribbons, buttons, lace, feathers and other craft supplies. I grabbed the shiniest gold fabric I could find and then hustled over to Boons where I found pom pom edging and felt hearts in the perfect shades of pink - what can I say it must have been my day! It was an easy make but I love the results, it's one of those rare times when the vision in your head works and the results are just as you'd pictured.
