As my boyfriend Pete and I are currently saving up to buy our own house I'm spending a lot of time scouring the real estate listing in our area to see what available in our budget range. As that budget isn't that big and from looking at what's for sale at the moment we won't have a large house which depressed me a little at first (the curse of fawning over gorgeous big pads online and in movies) but this just means that we'll need to use the space we have very wisely for what we want. As this is something that a lot of us will have to think about due to the economic situation we are currently in I thought I'd share some photos I've collected while browsing Houzz that illustrate clever ways to utilise the space you have best.

The room above I think is just gorgeous, but then again I would as it includes pink, velvet, gold and black and white stripes which are some of my favourite things. Other than this though it shows that even if you have to multi-task your living room to include a dining table it doesn't have to look odd and cluttered. The owners above have very cleverly managed to extend the comfy atmosphere to the dining area by keeping the colours in key with the rest of the room's scheme and adding cushions to the chairs. The pretty vase on the table and nice detail to the chair backs also make the dining area appear part of the scheme as it adds to the decoration of the room as a whole.

This is another great example of how keeping objects in the room of the same colour scheme makes it appear much more planned out and stylish even if you are pushed for space. You couldn't argue with this room as you still have everything you would need with tables and storage in the sideboard and on the shelves.

You are now seeing a lot more flats and apartments in the UK being built in a more open plan scheme as they do in the US, often integrating the kitchen and living room into the same space. The room above shows how correct placement of your furniture makes all the difference. There is even a dining table tucked behind the kitchen divider for if you have company over. Using a light colour scheme and keeping window finishings to a minimum so they let lots of light in also really help with making a room appear bigger.

I thought this was a fab idea for adding a dining or work area to a room without taking up lots of valuable space. The slim table looks just lovely with bar chairs tucked under it and is so slim it could even be used in a hallway between rooms.

I think this cosy dining table looks lovely built across the width of the room. I've always been a fan of the built in padded benching in restaurants so why not take this idea into the home to save space?

Another example of a smart space saver is this wall mounted hallway organiser so you can keep your keys, sunglasses, gadgets and other items you'll need when leaving the house in one place without looking untidy. I imagine this one was pretty pricing but you could easily create something similar yourself just by mounting a cabinet on the wall and adding a pretty tray to its top.

More smart hall way use here turning what would usually be the under the stairs cupboard into a stylish and functional office area - perfect if you don't want to sacrifice a whole room upstairs to being a work area. Just make sure you don't leave it untidy as it's the first thing guests will see when they arrive!

If you are happy to have a whole room dedicated to work but only have a narrow space this would be a great idea utilising the whole wall space and giving lots of worktop room for computers, drawing boards, sewing machines, crafting supplies or whatever hobbies take your fancy. If we owned the house we live in now I'd get straight onto doing this in the room I am in at the moment!

A small kitchen is one of my biggest fears, something I've had to conquer in the place we live now - being a little Victorian frame knitters cottage the kitchen is in an extension off the back of the house and is quite slim so I had to come up with some clever storage ideas to fit all my kitchen equipment and vintage glassware safe. The above room clearly has lots of storage space with the built in cabinets and shelving and the central butchers table island gives extra needed room for food prep without restricting movement too much. The pan racks on the walls are also a great space saving idea.

Because I am lame I dream of having a laundry room! Our washer dryer is currently in our kitchen with a hanging clothes drying rack suspended from the ceiling - a fabulous idea but when you need to cook before your clothes are dry they inevitable end up smelling like food, not good. This space would be ideal as you could wash and dry everything in the one room so it stays fresh and lovely, plus you wouldn't have the unsightly machines in your kitchen!

I really wouldn't mind waking up in this lovely bed every morning even though it's tucked away in round a corner, if anything this makes it look more cosy. The mirrors are a great touch as is the rug making it look like a planned space rather than a 'this is the only place to stick the bed' space. I think the only downside would be changing the sheets with no room at the sides of the bed!

Small outside spaces can be great too and don't just have to end up as dreary forgotten spaces. Adding the planters means you can still have greenery despite the lack of grass and the built in benching means you can fit more people around the table than having just chairs. As we don't have weather that warrants proper outdoor kitchens I'd trade that built in stove top for a barbecue and then you're set for the Summer.

You'll notice that a lot of modern houses in the UK have these long rectangular gardens that can seem a bit clinical and boring. The image above however just proves that with some clever use of decking and paving and smart arranging of plants and furniture you can create a lovely outdoor space from them. It also shows that your shed needn't be a boring old splintery wood affair - just paint it to match the scheme of the garden and add a few window boxes or hanging baskets to tie it in with the rest of the scheme as you would a room.

Do you have any tips for using small spaces efficiently? I'm making a scrap book of tips and ideas so I'd love to hear them if you do!

I adore brooches. They are the finishing touch to amost any outfit, can jazz up your ensemble if you feel you're looking a little dull and be used on so many things like hats, bags, stoles, scarves, jackets, cardigans... the possibilities are almost endless. Unfortunately they haven't really been in vogue for a good few years now and I think they deserve a revival, so I thought I'd share some of my favourites from my collection.

Above are a selection of round pieces I have picked up at various vintage fairs and bric-a-brac markets. I find this shape to be the most versatile as you don't have to worry about pinning it on straight or if its shape will look odd on the piece you are adding it to. Unfortunately the white and green one is missing a little stone at the bottom and the star shaped one I am yet to wear as the pin is missing from the back, but this meant they only cost £1 each so I can't grumble too much!

I have a big thing for bows (I have one tattooed on my wrist finishing my half sleeve) so naturally pretty ribbon brooches always catch my eye. All three were actually gifts to me and aren't terribly old, probably 1980's, but I still love them. They look so cute added to a black scarf or fur stole or jacket.

Novelty brooches are also a favourite of mine - sorry this picture isn't so great I just couldn't get lighting right as they are all so shiny! The happy little fox is the brooch I probably wear the most and is one of my favourite vintage fair finds, I think I paid £4 for him. The flapper girl in the metallic red hat and scarf was an eBay purchase for about £6 I think. I am unsure where the little enamelled fly came from, it may even be something I've 'adopted' from my Mum and Dad and the little sterling silver dressform was from another fair.

I have some modern brooches that I absolutely love too, mainly these four above. My parents bought me the colourful Butler & Wilson cross on my 18th birthday and I wear it an awful lot to add some spark to a mainly black outfit. I was given the Stray Cats guitar brooch at a concert when I was about 14 and the blue skully badge was a gift from an old tattooist friend of mine Chin when I helped him at the Gillingham Tattoo Convention a good few years ago. Last but not least is my Miss W badge that gorgeous Paula of Von Trash jewellery made me for wearing when out with my pop-up beauty parlour! It's a lovely pearlised pink and she hand cut it - no laser cutters here!

If you're not able to get to many vintage fairs or markets but still want to add a special touch with a classy brooch there are some great companies producing them at the moment! One of my favourites is Tatty Devine who make a wonderful range of mainly acrylic pieces inspired by both modern and classic designs. The above are my pic of the ones currently available on their website - unfortunately they are a bit out of my price range at the minute but a good few are going on my wish list for the future!

Butler & Wilson are one of my Mum and I's favourite jewellery designers. Mum has some gorgeous pieces by them including bracelets, necklaces and brooches. B&W pieces all super sparkly and feature both classic and more unusual designs; most being available in either bright crazy colours or more muted down tones. I really really really want that teddy bear tree to wear on Christmas day!

Do you collect brooches too? If so I'd love to see your collection!

Oh I do love a good wiggle dress, and these beauties from Stop Staring are real pearlers! The on ein the centre is my absolute favourite, probably becasue it's metallic and glitzy and we all know that's what I go for!

These naughty little devils are pretty much my perfect dessert combining four of my favourite things - pastry, caramel, macadamia nuts and white chocolate. Dreamy! You can find the recipe here - I'll be making these for myself when my birthday comes around!

If you're looking for some new wall art but can't afford something store bought why not head over to Free Vintage Posters, download a few and pop them in some cheap frames from Wilkos?! Above are a selection of my favourites but there are lots and lots on there to choose from!

Is this not the cutest sugar pot you've ever seen? It's by Miss Etoile and is most definitely going on the birthday list!

This watermelon mojito sounds very good right about now, I just need the nice weather to come back so I can sit in the garden with it and a good book.

I'd also be quite happy sat drinking one in this to die for pink velvet tub chair. This would add a gorgeous shot of colour and fun to any room, I think it would take pride of place by the window in my dream library!

If you're going to be giving any little gifts soon why not package them up in this super cute Totoro box? Perfect for the Ghibli fan in your life, or for anyone that loves cute fluffy confused looking creatures.

Last but not least this cherry bow hair clip from Miss Foo Foo Von Lady Garden is a treat, I think it would look stunning teamed with a gingham dress when heading out for a picnic! Plus it's on sale for only £4.54!

A few weeks ago when I was sitting in the cafe at Wentworth Castle with my MIL & SIL I received an email from a lovely lady called Carey asking me if I'd like to take part in a five way review for Anna Scholz's new season collection for Simply Be. I immediately got very excited and jumped at the chance as only the week before I had been admiring the collection in the new season Simply Be catalogue that had dropped through the letterbox.

I chose the beautiful jewel print dress to review and it is just gorgeous. Anna Scholz brand themselves as luxury plus size designer fashions and this dress really lives up to this statement. It is made of a wonderfully soft and light printed fabric with a fully lined bodice and skirt and fits like a dream.

The twist at the neckline and gathering on one side of the waist really show off the quality of the material and how it moves and flows like water. I usually wear cardigans over everything to cover my less than smooth back area, but don't need to with this dress as it hangs really gracefully giving a lovely outline to your body.

Because this is such a classic shape and an unusual but very feminine print I know I'll get lots of wear out of it for years to come, it's not the kind of thing that will be out of fashion and stashed in the back of the wardrobe after just one season. I'll definitely use it when I need to look more formal for work, but will also be happy to wear it on nights out as it's so glam!

Four other lovely bloggers are taking part in this review too, so why not head on over to their pages for a look at what outfits they chose to review?

I've been a fairly good girl recently and not bought too many pretty useless things! There have however been some bargains I just couldn't resist like this lovely framed print that I picked up at my local Loros shop this morning for only £3.50. It's a really nice size at about 21" tall and the frame is a lovely ruby red wood with a little bit of gilding inside - it's hung right next to the computer and I love it even more each time I look at it. It might even be my favourite of our collection of vintage prints.

This pretty young thing is in nowhere near as good condition as the lady above, but I still really like her. This one is about 35" x 25" so pretty big and I only paid £2 for her including the frame!!!! It is a cropped print of an 18th Century oil painting called 'The Reader' by Jean-HonorĂ© Fragonard. Unfortunately this one hadn't been that well looked after by its previous owner and is quite faded probably due to a long period of exposure to direct sunlight - if you research the painting online you'll see that the colours are actually much stronger on the original. The frame is pretty badly beaten up too but that can be sorted in time; I hung her in the stairwell and enjoy seeing her whenever I go up to bed.

Now another addition to my collectin of printed glassware! This was actually a set of four but I was using one at the time I took this photo. They are in excellent condition with hardly any wear to the gilding and were a bargain at £6 for the set at the Vintage Suitcase fair in Bakewell that I was at with my beauty parlour a few weeks ago.

This was another Vintage Suitcase fair find this time from the fair at the Derbyshire Dome in Buxton. The nice lady running the stall let me have it for £4 and I use it on my pop-up beauty parlour at fairs so people can see how their style is done if they want to try it themselves at home. It's a little worn on the back but the mirror itself is in great condition with only a few marks.

And now two non-vintage buys. I was in need of a new perfume for work so had a look on one of my favourite sites Fragrance Direct. After a good look around I decided to go for YSL Paris Premieres Roses Edition. A 125ml bottle of EDT was only £25.99 and I haven't found a YSL perfume that I don't like yet so crossed my fingers and ordered even though I hadn't smelled it before - or so I thought! When it arrived I gave it a smell and recognised it straight away; it was one that my Mum had bought a while ago! I don't mind this at all as I have a glam Mum with good taste in scents. It's lovely and floral and sweet with a touch of powder behind it - a little old fashioned but just my cup of tea.

The collar clips were a mega cheap eBay purchase from Hong Kong and I mean mega cheap - they were £1.15 with free shipping! I don't know how they do it, but I love these so much; I have an obsession with Art Deco style hand jewellery and although these are new they are a lovely touch to an outfit. They took about a month and a half to arrive, but you can't argue for that price!

This was a great find completely out of the blue at one of the Guildhall Vintage & Antique Fairs that I worked at a few weeks ago - an amazing antique book on confectionery and desserts. One of my favourite things about it is that there is a list of previous owners pencilled into the front cover, the first one being in 1933! As you can see it isn't in that great condition and I only paid £13 for it, but the colour picture plates are just gorgeous and it's interesting to see that it's trilingual giving instructions in English, French and I think Spanish.

Some of the recipes look amazing, especially these ice cream bombs! I've set myself the challenge of making at least one before the year is up. The book goes into detail about lots of different kinds of dessert, biscuit, pastry and confection even telling you how to carge centrepieces from blocks of ice!

There are some darling celebration ideas like the Easter bunny cake above. There are also some amazingly intricate sugar work creations for other holidays and a few crazily complex wedding cake towers!

These dessert slices look delicious, I can only imagine the amount of butter in all those cake layers and buttercream!

Hi lovelies! I'm going to be putting this jacket up on eBay tonight but wanted to give you sweeties first dibs if anyone wants it!

It's a lovely black faux leather biker jacket with pewter coloured zips and buttons in a size 22. I bought it full price a while ago for £45 but ordered a size too big so have ended up hardly wearing it - six times at most! It has great diamond quilted detail to the shoulders and bottom and also has little side straps that can be used to adjust the sizing a little.

This would be a perfect cover up for when it gets colder and looks great with lots of outfits. You could team it with a maxi skirt or jeans for a casual look, go cute grunge with a pretty dress under it or throw it on over your party dress for a night out.

It's in perfect condition with no wear and tear as I wore it so little, I'd ideally like £30 for it but am open to offers! P&P would be £5 first class within the UK, I can post internationally too if you send me your address I can check the postage price for you.

So as I'm sure a lot of you will know, finding stylish vintage clothing in plus sizes can be really really difficult. I usually start out optimistically but after finding only a handful of ill fitting shirt style dresses in shonky faded patel pattern I get seriously miffed and end up buying too many accessories and homewares to try and eleviate my frustration. This is where reproduction brands really hit the mark as you can get lovely flattering styles in your size and most of the time much better quality than you would have found second hand anyway!

A real pro at this kind of thing is London based company Collectif who started out in 2009 with a stall on Camden Market and grew to have three lovely shops in Camden, Spitalfields Market and Covent Garden. They go up to a size 22 in most of their styles and also sell lots of nice accessories like handbags, sunglasses, hair flower and jewellery so you could get pretty much a whole outfit from them if you so desired!

So here is a selection of my favourites from their in stock plus-sized items at the moment, starting with the image above and going from left to right...

So this is probably going to be the most glowing review I ever give anything, because I just don't know what I'd do if Clean On Me by Soap & Glory didn't exist. It is my absolute favourite shower gel of all time, period. I love it even more than expensive designer brands that I have tried like Dior and Guerlain. I love it even more than the ridiculously sweet sugarplum scented stuff that I bought in bulk from Avon last year because the smell made me so happy. Why do I love it so much you ask? Well here we go...

1 - It lathers up just beautifully.
I get irrationally irritated when I buy a new body wash only for it to wash straight away without bubbling as soon as you put it to your skin. There's no fun in that, and it shows that the manufacturers really didn't put the effort in when developing it.

2 - It smells dreamy and leaves a light fresh fragrance on your skin all day.
It is maked as having the 'Original Pink' S&G scent which doesn't really mean anything unless you're been buying their products from the start, but to me it smells a little fruity, a little creamy, a little bit floral and a little bit marshmallowy i.e. all my favourite things put together.

3 - It leaves your skin feeling super soft and moisturised.
A lot of shower gels leave me with tight feeling skin, and I have even experienced some scary burning and stinging sensations from some that leave me with a light rash - this makes for a not happy Nancy. Clean On Me leaves you feeling smooth and pampered, my skin is never softer than after a shower with this stuff.

4 - It's gentle but has cleaning power.
I use this stuff to remove my make-up, including waterproof mascara. I really hate most make-up removers as I can't stand the feel of anything oily on my hands or around my eyes, and Clean On Me is gentle enough for me to use to wash my face without stinging my eyes or my sensitive skin. It also gives my skin a shot of moisture - as I have oily problem skin I use quite a few skincare products which can cause dryness so this is a great help. This isn't its intended use so be careful if you decide to give this a go - it doesn't sting my eyes but it may do yours as everyone is different, so be careful.

5 - It can be used in place of a shaving foam.
Because you get such a rich lather this works great in place of a foam or gel when shaving. I think I get a closer shave when using this stuff too as you don't have such a thick layer of product over your skin so the blade can get closer. I sometimes got red blotches and itching when I used to shave with a foam, but as Clean On Me is really moisturising I don't get that at all anymore!

6 - A bottle last aaages.
Some of you may think that £6 for shower gel is a bit much, but it comes in a big 500ml pump bottle and seriously lasts for ages. I use mine every time I shower and find it lasts a good three months. Tip - it's on 3 for 2 at Boots at the moment!

Have you tried Clean On Me before? If so what did you think? Do you agree or do you have your own favourite? Do let me know so I can try yours out too!

FYI - This is not a sponsored post, I just bloody love the stuff!
